Gillespie: The “dull infomercial” that is The Democratic Convention


Every four years the two major parties trot out their big shots, often people who have gotten rich in politics or around politics, to tell the American people why it is THEIR cronies are the ones who should run the show. People have grown tired of this and so they aren’t tuning in like they did.

The national conventions long ago stopped being a place where any real news might happen or where unscripted events would reveal something authentic or telling. The shift to online-only underscores the reality that the DNC and RNC are infomercials pitched to the parties’ bases rather than events designed to reach out to uncommitted voters.
