One-third of Americans have cut their spending this year, and some fear a recession is coming


A recession is always coming of course. But soon? If the Fed does cuts rates soon, as expected, that usually means that the Fed thinks there will be a recession soon. The Fed is also often wrong however.

“There is some wisdom in the insights of people on the ground,” Bair said. “In their own spending and saving and work experiences day to day, people can sometimes pick up on (subtle) cues that may not be readily apparent in aggregate data.”

No kidding.
