A Mississippi Woman Gave Diet Advice Without a License. The State Threatened To Throw Her in Jail


Eat more greens and exercise more. Oh wait, you’re not licensed to say thatIt’s actually worse than the article describes. Dozens of states have outlawed any diet advisor who is not a dietitian in exchange for support dietetics associations. One must be a PHD in nutrition from a top university but if you don’t join the Dietetics Association and go through their program and pay their fees one becomes a criminal.

On January 22, Harris received a cease-and-desist letter from the Mississippi Department of Health. Talking about healthy eating on Facebook and getting paid to do it, the department said, could trigger a $1,000 fine and up to six months in jail.
