Are teacher’s unions ‘extorting’ parents, students, and taxpayers?
In some instances it sure looks like it. The unions don’t want to let covid go to waste so they are exploiting this opportunity to the degree they can to further their agenda.
But you, know, it’s for the safety of the children.
The demands from the teachers’ unions include:
(From The Wall Street Journal)
“- Support for our communities and families, including canceling rents and mortgages, a moratorium on evictions/foreclosures, providing direct cash assistance to those not able to work or who are unemployed, and other critical social needs
-Moratorium on new charter or voucher programs and standardized testing
-Massive infusion of federal money to support the reopening funded by taxing billionaires and Wall Street”
Notice the second demand particularly. The teacher’s unions despise that they have any competition at all. That charter schools often outperform traditional public schools makes the unions look bad. They would like to use the current plague to kill reform in the American educational system.
