Civil rights groups press Congress to probe Amazon’s ‘surveillance empire’

Amazon and the government work together on many projects. The CIA for instance is on Amazon’s cloud. Amazon’s doorbell company, Ring, recently revealed that it shares video streams from people’s houses with police.

“During this holiday season, people are going to buy Amazon’s product unaware of the surveillance features and the threats they pose to their personal data and civil liberties,” Evan Greer, the deputy director of digital rights group Fight for the Future, said in a statement. “Meanwhile, Amazon gains access to video footage and sensitive audio recordings from millions more Americans and their families.”
