Gov Newsom: Climate Change Responsible for California Wildfires (But What else might be driving CA fires?)
Policy from Sacramento is clearly involved.
CA government encourages people to build in places that catch on fire. Where in the past small fires cleared the understory, these are no longer allowed. The areas are now vulnerable to carelessness or worse.
But the people who live in fire prone areas, think Sonoma vineyards, tend to be well off and relatively politically connected. As such they want insurance companies, and more importantly taxpayers, to pay for their lifestyle.
We also have to wonder what these fires have done to the California “net-carbon” equation.

As the Bay Area and other parts of California deal with the devastating effects of raging wildfires, Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday attacked the idea that the fires are natural in any way. He said the cause is climate change and said anyone who thinks differently is in denial.
