Vox Asks: Why the very richest Americans are refusing to take sides openly in the presidential race


 

We’ll tell you. Because the very rich know that their interests will likely be protected for a price no matter what form the campaign rhetoric takes. And what candidates want is money, not public support, which just backfires. They also know that access to government and the riches associated with access to government require that they stay out of the limelight. The last thing a superrich person wants is to become a polarizing figure. Look what happened to the Kochs.

People like Reid Hoffman, Eric Schmidt, and Laurene Powell Jobs — billionaires, yes, but not household names — are investing their money and energy to oust Trump.
