Children ‘Bathing in Radiation’ at Schools, Experts Say. Here’s What Parents Can Do.
The latest episode of CHD.TV’s “The Empower Hour,” host Zen Honeycutt featured three experts on electric and magnetic fields (EMF) who discussed how to prevent unhealthy exposure to wireless radiation.
Doug and Patti Wood, senior project directors of the TechSafe Schools Program and Americans for Responsible Technology, and Mary Anne Tierney, an electromagnetic radiation specialist with Blue Ridge EMF Solutions, explained the science behind wireless technology and electromagnetic radiation and the connection to kids’ health.
Doug and Patti Wood focused on children’s exposure to wireless radiation at school. They discussed wireless radiation facts and harms, and how one easy change can reduce children’s EMF exposure at school by 94%.
Patti Wood said:
“It’s really affecting every living thing on this planet. Children are uniquely vulnerable to environmental exposure … they have thinner skulls (than adults) and more water in their brains, which is a conductor of this electromagnetic radiation. It’s more problematic for our children to be holding cell phones right against their heads, but also to be in a classroom situation where they are literally bathed in this radiation because of the ubiquitous nature of it.
“Classrooms today are designed today so that kids are sitting at communal tables, with six to eight kids around a table. When you add in the router, and you add in the whiteboard and the cell phones that the kids have brought into the classroom, you understand that we have a very, very high level of radiation. Experts will call it a ‘hot spot.’”
Patti Wood listed the top adverse health effects of wireless radiation for children, which include: various types of cancers, brain tumors, reproductive organ damage, cardiovascular stress and neurological and behavioral impacts.
Many children, she said, experience acute reactions from being exposed to hot spots at home and school, such as headaches, nausea, dizziness, inability to concentrate and sleep difficulties. She said LED light screens can interfere with circadian rhythms.
Doug Wood, whose organization TechSafe Schools Program works with parents to help limit radiofrequency radiation from wireless devices at schools, said he thinks the best way to protect kids is to start at the local level.
“We think local advocates are the best way to get this done. It is very difficult for advocates to do it themselves without the science, so we provide the science,” he said.
Honeycutt used the techniques she learned in Wood’s program to communicate with her school district’s technology director.
“These levels in schools can be quite high,” said Honeycutt, who had her children’s school switch to hardwiring to reduce wireless radiation.
Tierney, a registered nurse and EMF coach, discussed how to reduce wireless radiation exposure in the home and how to test if you have EMF sensitivity.
She added nosebleeds, brain fog, seizures, ringing in the ears and exacerbations of autism spectrum disorder to the list of common EMF-related symptoms in children.
“Even though we have a lot of symptoms, we really can reverse them in a low EMF environment,” Tierney said.
Also in this episode:
- Why parents should take EMF exposures seriously.
- A school science experiment testing Wi-Fi signals and plant growth — one student said, “I think when the Wi-Fi’s on, it’s affecting the world.”
- Carol Grieve, founder and CEO of Food Integrity Now, provided the weekly roundup of health news, including a report on the dangers of 5G towers and airlines and vetoed cell phone legislation in California.
