CNN Grills NIH Director Over Risky Gain-of-Function Research in Wuhan

In what ZeroHedge described as a “blistering” interview, National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Dr. Francis Collins was “absolutely grilled” by CNN’s Pamela Brown, who repeatedly held Collins to the wall as she pressed for cogent answers on why the NIH was funding dangerous gain-of-function (GOF) research.

Collins resigned from the NIH in early October, as the media homed in on the agency’s research through grants it gave to EcoHealth Alliance, which in turn used the money to work with the Wuhan Institute of Virology with very little, if any, oversight on NIH’s part.

Collins said he will step down by the end of the year.

In the CNN interview, Brown hammered Collins on his lack of leadership and oversight of what he and Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of NIH’s National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases, claimed was EcoHealth’s failure to report on the GOF research it was doing with the Wuhan lab.

Even Josh Rogin from the liberal Washington Post picked up on Brown’s dogged demands for Collins to come clean on the issue in the face of Collins’ attempts to sidetrack her:

Again and again, though, Brown brought the interview back on track, pressing Collins for answers, demanding to know “Why should Americans trust you and the NIH on the issue of COVID origins, when you didn’t even know about the programs it was funding with taxpayer dollars in China?”

Despite Collins’ insistence that the NIH was above board and honest in all its communications, Brown refused to let him off the hook, ending the interview with:

“This is U.S. taxpayer dollars going to risky research and I believe every American deserves to know about it.”
