Danger of Severe COVID So Low in Kids, It’s ‘Difficult to Quantify’
On a recent episode of “The Jimmy Dore Show,” comedian and political commentator Jimmy Dore and investigative journalist Max Blumenthal discussed the issue of COVID vaccine mandates for children, such as those proposed by California and New York.
Dore first mentioned an article by Emily Oster that appeared in The Atlantic, which highlighted how mild COVID tended to be in children. Dore said the article drew heavy criticism at the time it was published, with critics saying the piece “understated the risks.”
Dore also shared a New York Times article from earlier this month citing data showing an unvaccinated child is at less risk of serious COVID illness than a vaccinated 70-year-old. The article admitted “with more COVID data available, the debate over [The Atlantic] article [now] looks quite different” and that “Oster has largely been vindicated.”
NY Times corrected article that said nearly 900,000 children have been hospitalized w/COVID in US when actual number is 63,000 + op-ed cited data showing unvaccinated child has less risk of being infected w/virus than a fully vaccinated 70-year-old.https://t.co/xXWqNBxyLe

“If anything, she didn’t go far enough” in describing the lack of risk COVID poses to children, Dore said. “For children without a serious medical condition, the danger of severe COVID is so low as to be difficult to quantify.”
California’s proposed mandate for school children doesn’t make sense, given the low risk COVID poses to kids, Dore said. “I don’t think that’s following the science.”
Dore played a clip from an August 2020 interview with Dr. Anthony Fauci, chief medical advisor to President Biden, in which Fauci said, “I don’t think you’ll ever see a mandating of [COVID-19] vaccines for any element of the general public … you would never mandate it.”
“So the New York Times says the risk COVID poses to children is so low it’s difficult to quantify, and our chief COVID guy last year said you should never mandate the COVID vaccine … yet California is mandating it, for children nonetheless,” Dore said. “This is quite a story.”
Dore opened up the discussion to investigative journalist and editor of the Grayzone, Max Blumenthal, who highlighted the massive “bait and switch” the ruling medical establishment has carried out in regard to the COVID vaccine.
“They first told the American people that [the COVID vaccines] largely prevent viral transmission and infection, then it was proven to fail at preventing viral transmission when we saw the case of Barnstable County in Massachusetts, where 74% of COVID cases were in the fully vaccinated,” Blumenthal explained.
He said:
“We were also told the COVID vaccine would effectively prevent hospitalizations, but now we’re seeing enormous hospitalization rates in countries that are highly vaccinated, like Ireland, which is the most vaccinated country in Europe, 93% of people over the age of 12 have been vaccinated yet they’re seeing more hospitalizations now compared to before the vaccine was even introduced.”
What do the public health authorities do? Blumenthal asked. “They say we just need to vaccinate more.”
“So in children, a lot of people believe that if they just give the kids a COVID shot … the kids will be prevented from transmitting and infecting others like most of the vaccines in the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] vaccine schedule, and it’s just simply not true,” said Blumenthal.
Blumenthal pointed to Israel and Chile, which have recently mandated citizens receive a third booster shot to be considered “fully vaccinated” and also recent comments made by CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky that “We may need to update our definition of fully vaccinated.”
“What does this mean for our children?” Blumenthal asked. “How many boosters will they have to take over their lives to maintain proper antibodies?”
“If you’re 5 years old and you live to 90 years old, you will have had almost 200 booster shots at the rate we’re going today,” said Blumenthal. “I don’t know if anyone can sustain that.”
