9th Circuit Three Judge Panel Allows California Extensive Ban on Concealed Carry to Go into Effect on January 1st
California’s new concealed handgun law bans carrying guns in 26 places; most public places, including public parks and playgrounds, churches, banks, and zoos, go into effect today. Going into any business that doesn’t have a posted sign saying that you can carry, there is now a crime in California. A district court judge had issued a preliminary injunction for the law, but a three-judge panel took the unusual position of temporarily staying with the district court’s decision. Two of the judges on the panel were Democrats (Rawlinson (Clinton) and Hurwitz (Obama)), and one was a Republican (Bush).
