JOB OPENING at the CPRC
Job duties: Working exclusively in the field of researching the connection between crime, violence, and statutes and regulations concerning the private ownership of guns by conducting apposite research geared towards advancing the scientific understanding of the relationship between gun laws and crime and public safety. Utilize STATA data analysis and statistical software, manipulate data by reshaping, transforming, recoding, and aggregating micro-level data and extracting information from messy data. Gather, read, and analyze crime and social economic data and research papers related to the correlation between gun ownership, laws regulating the lawful ownership of guns, and crime and public safety, then rebuild data sets to test and tweak their models, using a statistical and empirical manner with the goals of our nonprofit organization in mind. Collect and organize data for different research projects from various resources including the U.S. census website, the FBI’s website, as well as from state and local policing authorities, which involves extensive amounts of communication with third parties as well as petitioning the government via Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) requests when necessary. Write descriptive summary reports, manuscripts, articles, and other academic and scholarly research which can be digested and understood by the public at large, and more specifically, by target groups working in public policy and the legislative process. Employee may work from various unanticipated locations throughout the U.S. Telecommuting permitted.
Minimum requirements: A Master’s degree in Public Policy that must have included coursework in Statistical Methods for Policy Analysis, Strategy in Public Policy, Ethics/Values/Public Policy and Advanced Regression/Progressive Evaluation Methodologies, plus at least 4 months of hands-on experience in research projects involving macroeconomic and monetary policies and provided development of data analytical skills and the efficient use of electronic and traditional research and data analytical tools such as STATA.
