Who owns guns? And does Ownership make People feel Safer?
A new Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,293 American adults. Men live in households owning guns at a higher rate than women. Older people over 65 are more likely to own guns. Whites, Hispanics, and other own guns at the same rate. About one-third of Democrats live in households with guns, but that is about 13 percentage points less than Republicans. Married people, those with children, a high school education, and earn between $35,000 and $50,000 own guns own guns at the highest rates.
American gun owners by a feel that guns make them feel safe versus less safe by a 10-to-1 ratio. For men, the ratio is 11.6-to-1. For women, it is 8.9-to-1. Hispanics have the highest ratio of 15.6-to-1 and blacks the lowest at 4.6-to-1. There is little difference based on whether someone is married or has children. Those with some college, those who made under $30,000, and those between $100,000 and $200,000 have the highest ratios.
