The doctor (president of Register) saying no

The story would have been different if, in 1943, there had not been “The people who said no.”. From the beautiful book of Bo Lidegaard we discover that an entire nation, Denmark, rejected Nazi laws. And that, when the round-up of the Jews began, it was the Danes who rescued the persecuted and helped them take refuge in Sweden. Just two weeks, from September 26 to October 9, changed the history of that people and 6,500 Jews.

No Dane thought then “that he must always obey the laws”. In the face of the persecution of one’s own kind, other diktats prevail, much more rooted in the human soul and unwritten. 

Today he is the president of The Register of Dentists of the order of doctors of La Spezia, Sandro Sanvenero say no to unjust laws. He has the task of suspending dental doctors not in compliance with the vaccination obligation. And he did it until a few weeks ago. “I have been presiding over a register for 16 years with about 240 members, colleagues who have chosen not to get vaccinated and who have not become ill or exempted, going to meet the consequences provided for by law, are counted on the fingers of one hand. I signed those suspension measures, but from now on I will not do it again”.

What happened?

“The data that continue to be published and that are accumulating say that, regardless of the number of doses made, the vaccinated subject can become infected and infect. Vaccinations do not stop the spread of the virus and, therefore, the disease. Not only that: it is observed that infections are more recurrent in the vaccinated than in the unvaccinated. The evidence, therefore, is invalidating the premise of the decree that was to protect the fragile. At this point, to keep faith with the guiding principle of the law, we should dissuade health workers from getting vaccinated. Continuing to undergo doses of anti Covid becomes, for health workers, an act of Health selfishness”.

How will his position change with this decision?

“I sent a communication to the 240 registered doctors convening an extraordinary assembly. On 30 June this issue will be addressed and then colleagues will decide whether to keep me as their president again. I will state that my position is already clear: if I remain president I will not sign more such suspensions”.

If it were to be reconfirmed, for the dentists of La Spezia vaccination would again be a choice and not a constraint.

“Exact. I have always been in favour of free choice. When the first vaccines for health workers arrived, I worked, together with the other presidents, at the region to obtain equal opportunities for all members. The first doses were intended for doctors of the public service, it was December 2020, colleagues from the private received them only in April”.

You have never been vaccinated, why?

“Out of caution. To approve a vaccine it takes 5 to 10 years, in some cases even 20; anti Covid have only been tested for 60 days. In medicine it takes time, it is essential to observe”.

But he was not suspended.

“For a short time I was. Then I got sick with Covid”.

What do you think about managing the pandemic?

“Surely choices were made-policies-that had no scientific logic. I am thinking of the Prohibition of autopsies: a corpse has never been seen to transmit a respiratory virus; autopsy, then, has always been the means to clarify the causes of deaths.

The doctor is obliged to adhere to the knowledge of the moment. It is true that I represent a public administration but I am also a doctor who reads data and who has sworn allegiance to medical ethics. So now, with today’s evidence, I could no longer comply with a senseless law”.

The policy also says that immunity from Covid is temporary.

“But it’s not true. Immunity is not only given by the presence of antibodies (which also, in view of vaccination recalls, are not taken into account) but by a set of factors that causes – and there are studies in this regard – that those who have contracted the virus are protected in a robust and lasting way”.

What will you do, together with your cured colleagues, when a new vaccination card should be imposed to be able to work or as a ” requirement of access to the profession”?

“I will take the data to court.
