Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) introduces amendment to keep track of incomes of those affected by Red Flag Laws and the NICS

Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) introduces an amendment to keep track of incomes of those affected by Red Flag Laws and the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). Massie also wanted to keep track of the race and gender of those who were falsely stopped from buying guns because of errors in the NICS background check system. Democrats wouldn’t allow the data to be collected for the NICS system, but they did allow Massie’s amendment regarding the income of those impacted by Red Flag laws. Massie’s amendment passed unanimously.

This is an issue that the CPRC has discussed many times, and it was data on the NICS system that Dr. John Lott tried to obtain when he was recently working at the US Department of Justice. Lott had suggested this idea to Massie’s staff.
