Defensive Gun Uses By People Legally Carrying Guns: 21 Cases During August 2022

Police believe a deadly shooting in North Philadelphia was a case of self-defense.

It happened right around 6 p.m. in the 2800 block of North Taney Street…

According to Inspector D.F. Pace, the 27-year-old man was circling the block while engaging in some sort of verbal contact with the shooter.

At some point during the incident, the 27-year-old man got out of the vehicle and pulled out a weapon, said Pace. That’s when the shooter opened fire…

Police said the shooter had a permit to carry and is cooperating with police.

Auburn police say the store clerk, who had a weapon on him, took action into his own hands and shot the 19-year-old robbery suspect…

Police say the store clerk has not been charged with a crime, at this point in time…

A homeowner shot and killed a teen during an attempted robbery on Indianapolis’ east side early Wednesday morning, police said.

Two people were in a car in front of their home when multiple people approached the vehicle. At least one person in this group, including the deceased, had a gun, police said.

The teen attempted to rob the people in the car, Sgt. Frank Wooten said. Wooten said officers believe the homeowner, who was detained and taken in for questioning, acted in self-defense…

It happened at Lodge Food Mart near Riverside Drive around 7:40 p.m. on Wednesday.

When officers arrived, they say they found two men dead with gunshot wounds…

Authorities received a 911 call from a person who said he had shot one of the men…

During the interview, he said he was at the parking lot of 2100 Lodge Avenue in his truck when he saw two men arguing.

The bystander told officers one of the men drew a gun and fired several shots into the air. Then he allegedly saw the man fatally shoot the other…

They say when the bystander saw this, he got out of his car and told Fenwick to drop his gun.

The bystander told authorities Fenwick refused. When that happened, he said he shot Fenwick out of fear.

Fenwick then ran behind the building and the bystander left the parking lot and called 911…

Officers also say the bystander had a permit to carry

An Amazon delivery driver is not facing any charges after he shot a knife-wielding man on Sunday.

The driver, Gino Grove, was out on his route when the suspect, Christopher Roberts, walked up to him with a knife, according to Middletown police…

The police report shows Roberts was suspected of being under the influence of drugs when he confronted the Amazon driver…

“I raise my firearm and I try to tell him, ‘Stop, stop, stop!’ He’s like, ‘Knife fight! Knife fight!’ And he’s looking at me and got these bugged-out eyes, and he’s coming at me close.”

Grove says he shot Roberts in the leg and Roberts barely reacted…

In that moment, Grove says he was petrified and was defending his life in order to see his family again…

West Palm Beach Police said a brawl between two women escalated into a fight involving about 20 people along the 800 block of Fourth Street, between Douglass and Division avenues, at about 10:40 p.m. Sunday.

A 911 caller told the dispatcher that a 22-year-old man grabbed a short-barreled rifle from his car and threatened to fire into the crowd.

People confronted him, police said, but he didn’t drop the gun. A 32-year-old man, who has a state concealed-carry permit, fired his own weapon and struck the young man. First responders pronounced the younger man dead at the scene…

The man who fired the fatal shot remained at the scene and cooperated with detectives, police wrote. There were no charges pending against him as of Tuesday afternoon…

Houston police responded to reports of a shooting at 8019 Lavender Street around 7:55 p.m.

Houston police said the 36-year-old suspect entered the store intoxicated and went behind the cash register and assaulted the clerk.

Police said the 23-year-old clerk took out a gun and shot the man multiple times…

Arlington police said the woman told them that on Aug. 11 the man burglarized the vehicle and she and her son confronted the suspect and tried to detain him.

A physical altercation erupted, and the woman and the suspect fought over her handgun.

One of them fired the gun in the air once, and the woman shot the suspect in self-defense, according to her statement, police said…

Police on Wednesday said the woman has not been arrested.

Police said 44-year-old Michael Kroll was fatally wounded in central El Paso at the 100 block of Brown Street on Saturday shortly after 1 p.m. EDT.

Investigators said an unidentified 40-year-old man, who was working as a delivery driver, arrived at a home to make a delivery.

During the delivery, the man was approached by Kroll.

Police said Kroll started an argument with the delivery driver and then threatened him with a wooden pole.

The man then shot Kroll, resulting in Kroll’s death.

No charges have been filed, authorities said…

Atlanta police told Channel 2 they responded to a stabbing and shooting call next to each other on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive around 6 a.m. Monday…

According to police, a driver stopped at the gas station and came back to his SUV to find a man inside it. Police said the man stabbed the driver multiple times and took off.

A witness to the stabbing decided to follow the man down the street. Police said the two got into a confrontation and the stabbing suspect lunged at the witness with a knife. Police said the witness fired his gun at the suspect and shot him at least once…

Police say a gunman shot a taxicab driver in the arm around 2:30 p.m. Monday in the 3000 block of Thomas Street in the Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood.

The victim told police he was traveling near the intersection of Thomas Street and Webster Avenue when he got into a verbal argument with a man driving a great Dodge Durango. Police say the suspect drove away, but made a U-Turn. While driving on the opposite side of the road, he reportedly fired several shots at the victim.

Investigators say the victim returned fire and shot at the suspect one time, though it’s unclear whether the suspect was struck. The suspect took off from the scene after shots were fired. The victim is hospitalized, though injuries do not appear to be life-threatening at this time…

According to deputies, it happened at an address on Jordan Road around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies said a man went to the home of a “former domestically-related partner” and got into an altercation.

According to the deputies, the man left the home, then returned within 30 minutes and fired at people standing outside the home.

One of those people returned fire, hitting the man in the leg, deputies said…

According to a Minneapolis Police Department spokesman, officers responded to a report of a shooting at around 2:07 p.m. near the intersection of 22nd Street East and 10th Avenue South. A man with “potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds” was given first aid before medics took him to the hospital.

Investigators say the man was walking to his car when three males approached him and demanded his keys and phone. One of them pointed a gun at him.

The man ran away from the group as shots were fired toward him, and he returned fire. The group then fled the scene…

Laron Mackey, 15, died of a gunshot wound to the neck on Friday in the 7700 block of Culebra Road, near Ingram Road, authorities said.

San Antonio police responded to the scene at 3:30 a.m., after a man said he shot someone who tried to rob him.

According to SAPD, the man told officers that he was on his way to his apartment when he saw a Prius circling the parking lot.

Three armed males got out of the Prius, approached the man, and tried to rob him, police said.

The victim, instead, refused to hand over his belongings and pulled out his own gun. He shot one of the suspects in the neck, police said…

Police said the victim is not expected to face charges…

Police said they responded Sunday at about 12:26 a.m. to the Maverik at 605 W. Haskell St. on reports of shots being fired.

They arrived to find a 16-year-old boy had been shot by a 19-year-old male. The 16-year-old was taken to Humboldt General Hospital where he died from his injuries.

People said witnesses and participants cooperated with the investigation. It appears the 16-year-old attacked the 19-year-old with a knife prior to the shooting.

“The preliminary investigation shows that this was an act of self-defense,” police said…

It was just after midnight Sunday morning when Indy police officers were called to the BP convenience store and gas station at 9th and Delaware Streets on a report of a shootout, leaving at least three people wounded.

“It appears one of our shooting victims was the victim of an attempted robbery. He was armed and defended himself and fired shots and there was a shootout inside the store between the potential victim of the robbery and the potential robbers,” said Indianapolis Metro Police Assistant Chief Chris Bailey. “One of the potential robbers is deceased. The third person that shot, we’re unsure what their role is in this incident.” …

The concealed carry holder returned fire, striking the suspect once in the upper chest, police said…

The concealed carry holder was not injured in the shooting. Police said the shooting stemmed from an attempted carjacking…

In the 3000 block of W. 71st St., on Aug. 24, 2022, at approx. 6:57 p.m., a male victim, 33, was approached by a male offender, 33 when the offender produced a handgun and fired shots. The victim returns fire. Both the victim and offender were struck. One of the weapons was recovered. The male offender was taken into custody. Both were transported to local hospitals for non-life threatening injuries…

A young man suspected of randomly killing three people on Detroit streets fled when an armed bystander saw him shoot a fourth person and responded with his own gunfire, witnesses told a TV station…

Kaia Maxey-Gholson told the TV station that she witnessed another man fire shots in an attempt to stop the suspect.

She said she believes the suspect would have kept shooting the elderly man “like he did the other victims that morning.” …

WXYZ didn’t identify the man who intervened but quoted him as saying the suspect “saw my weapon and he went from predator to prey.” …

A man who was shot during an altercation at a Stafford County business late Monday morning has been charged in connection with the incident…

According to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Ryan Wilbur, Deputy M.E. Gordon was heading south in the 200 block of Warrenton Road about 11:45 a.m. when multiple people outside Tires & Wheels Unlimited flagged her down…

Wilbur said Greenage told the deputy he had gotten into a verbal altercation with the employee because his niece had been overcharged for repair work.

The employee claimed that Greenage had threatened business workers over the phone before arriving at the business. During the argument, according to the employee, Greenage pushed him and pulled out a gun.

The employee responded by firing his own gun, striking Greenage. Police said Greenage then fired several shots of his own, but did not strike anyone.

After investigating the scene and talking to multiple witnesses, Wilbur said it was determined that Greenage started the altercation and that the employee acted in self-defense…

Pasadena, TX, August 31, 2022 (ABC 13)

The armed woman, whom police did not identify, was also attacked by the suspicious man when she intervened just after 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday in the 1400 block of South Houston Road, near West Southmore. The address points to a complex that houses Nexeo Solutions and ST Labs.

According to police, the armed woman’s co-worker left the business through an electric gate when she saw a man hitting a side window of her car with his fist. He then yelled at the co-worker.

The co-worker was able to leave and close the gate behind her, when the man got into his vehicle and drove through the electric gate, hitting several cars parked inside the business.

It was by this time, police said, that the armed woman entered the picture. She was outside of the workplace but inside the gated area when she saw what happened and went to get a handgun, which investigators say was lawfully in her possession.

The woman confronted the man, who then attacked her, leading to a struggle. It wasn’t until she opened fire twice at the man that the struggle ended, police said…
