NBC’s Law & Order makes full throated call for “common sense” gun control
Television police shows work closely with gun control groups to push for gun control, but usually their push gun control in more subtle ways. They show AR-15s as machine guns or show people who use guns defensively either harm others or themselves or push myths about ghost guns. But in this episode of NBC’s Law & Order (Season 22, Episode 22, May 18, 2023), District Attorney Jack McCoy (played by Sam Waterston) calls for “common sense” gun control. A gun control advocate fatally shoots a US Senator because the Senator changed his vote and opposed a gun control law. The gun control advocate had been a victim of a school shooting, and he had been extremely traumatized by that experience. Indeed, that experience is offered as the murderer’s defense. In particular, the show is pushing a ban on assault weapons.
To the show’s creators, more gun regulations are the only obvious solution to stop mass public shootings. No one considers the dangers of gun-free zones. No one notes that there have been no shooting attacks where anyone has been killed or wounded at any of the thousands of schools with armed teachers.
