Yet more recent Defensive Gun Uses by Teenagers

Earlier this year the CPRC put together a list of 21 instances where people under age 21 used guns defensively to save lives. These cases have become more relevant with the renewed calls for gunlock laws. Here are some more cases:

14-year-old boy, Philadelphia, December 9, 2021

A 14-year-old boy shot a would-be robber in the face Thursday night because the man started to strangle the boy’s mother while attempting to steal cash from a Spring Garden pizza shop, according to police.

Authorities said the robbery suspect came into Bold Pizza on the 1500 block of Spring Garden Street a little before 9:47 p.m. and tried to reach over the counter and take money out of the register. That prompted a physical struggle between the robbery suspect and an employee, police said, and the suspect “started to strangle” the employee — the teen’s mother.

The teen then grabbed a handgun from under a counter, police said, and shot the robbery suspect once in the face. Police said the gun was legally owned by the teen’s father. . . .

“I was probably gonna be dead”

Teenager, Indianapolis, August 29, 2021

Shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday, a woman told FOX59 News that her 28-year-old nephew arrived at her home and began beating her in the 500 block of Eugene Street.

“My nephew was here and he was very upset because I wouldn’t let him come in and he beat me up and wouldn’t get off of me,” she said, “and my nephew came and shot at my other nephew.” . . .

“He threw me to the ground and stomped on my face and stomped my head and punched me in my face,” she said, recalling what happened just before the teenager emerged from the house with a gun. “Then my nephew just started shooting. Then my other nephew was still hitting me and so then he got up and ran and went down the street and fell.” . . .

“Then I was probably gonna be dead,” she said. “I probably was gonna be stomped in my head to death. This would be a whole other issue and you would be talking to my mother.” . . .

A juvenile is being called a “brave kid” by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for protecting a family member from assault by another family member.

“Kid,” Houston, Texas, September 18, 2021.

A juvenile is being called a “brave kid” by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for protecting a family member from assault by another family member. . . .

According to the DA’s office, the juvenile and the woman moved to a home to escape the family member. That relative, who sources identify as Tracy Landry, showed up to the home with what officials said appeared to be a sack filled with canned goods to use as an assault weapon on the woman.

That’s when the juvenile allegedly shot Landry in the back and chest with a handgun and called police. Landry died from the gunshot wounds.

Police said they did not take the juvenile into custody because they considered the shooting an act of defense of a third party. . . .

They arrived at the scene around 2:30 a.m. Saturday and found the 16-year-old.

Officials said the teen got into an argument with a group of about four to five other juvenile boys. . . .

Officials said the teen was not taken into custody after their initial investigation determined he fired in self-defense.
