Newsom Abdicates the Throne
In our court battles against Gavin Newsom, he’s insisted that a State of Emergency “centralizes the State’s powers in the hands of the Governor.” But what happens when those hands are clutching a margarita south of the border?
In that case, he abdicates the throne. With Newsom vacationing in Cabo over the last week, the Lieutenant Governor took his place. Then yesterday, the Lt. Governor also left California and the Senate President, who’s third in the line of succession, assumed the governorship.
That’s right: as we’re supposedly embroiled in a State of Emergency, both Newsom and the Lt. Governor abdicated all responsibility for any “emergency” response. If this isn’t a reason to pass ACR 46, my Resolution to terminate the emergency, I don’t know what is.
Speaking of legislation: six months ago the Sacramento Bee called my bill to ban vaccine passports a “meaningless stunt” because they didn’t exist. As of today, you can’t go anywhere in LA without one. I am re-introducing AB 327 in January.
Alas, Newsom did return last night, just in time to see he’s succeeded in getting a court to halt the vaccine mandate for his big union donor. Yet he remains the only governor imposing a mandate on kids. It’s hard to imagine anything more corrupt.
A governor who imposes vaccine mandates then sells exemptions to campaign donors can be bought for any purpose. But we already knew that about Gavin Newsom.
Meanwhile, Brown University scientists have found “striking evidence of declining overall cognitive functioning in children” from masks and other COVID measures. Ending the emergency will mean a return to normal schooling. It can’t wait another day.
