Newsom’s Revenge
I’ve been removed as Vice Chair of the Education Committee after five years. This is retaliation for fighting back against Newsom’s corrupt school policies. Putin would be proud.
They’ve tried these tactics before. A few years ago, there was a malicious bill to prevent highly qualified young teachers from working to close achievement gaps in the inner city. Having been one of those teachers myself, I spoke out against the bill and helped defeat it.
As “punishment,” my staff and I were moved to the smallest office at the Capitol. They somehow thought this pettiness would make me stop fighting. Of course, it had precisely the opposite effect. The same will be true this time.
Sadly, these tactics often work. My first year, a Democrat on the Education Committee voted for a school reform bill opposed by the unions. They had a “talk” with him and had him ousted from the committee. After that, he obediently tied the line.
Newsom and the Legislature are dead set on keeping our education system the worst in the country. They’re owned by Special Interests whose business model is keeping students trapped in failing schools.
That’s the reason for their unrelenting assault on parental rights and school choice. It’s why they’ve embraced COVID as an “opportunity” to shut down schools, close off alternatives, and make kids as miserable as possible.
The fact that they’d take my Vice Chairmanship now is telling. It shows that our movement is threatening the entire corrupt system. It’s getting bigger by the day, and our opportunities next year are boundless.
Regardless of where I appear on the 2022 ballot, I’ll be fighting at our Capitol until my current term in the Assembly ends next December. But I’m also ready to take our fight to the next level and expose this corruption for all to see.
