Newsom’s Worst Lie Yet
Sometimes, the dots connect themselves. Let’s start with today’s bombshell report that Newsom wildly misled the public about his fire prevention efforts:
An investigation from CapRadio and NPR’s California Newsroom found the governor has misrepresented his accomplishments and even disinvested in wildfire prevention. The investigation found Newsom overstated, by an astounding 690%, the number of acres treated with fuel breaks and prescribed burns.
It’s hard to say which is worse, the deception or the dereliction. But there’s more.
At the moment, Newsom is trying to cheat in the Recall by signing a new law to totally control when the vote happens. (In fact, so many laws are being changed to help him that elections officials can’t keep up: they’ve sent an “alarmed” letter warning of impossible demands and “voter confusion.”)
After months of delay, Newsom suddenly wants to move the election up – so that it happens before fire season. His spokesman in the Senate said as much, writing that “fires” are among Newsom’s “biggest threats,” and that’s why the “best opportunity to beat this reckless recall is to have an early election.”
Back to the NPR report:
Overall, California’s [wildfire] response has faltered under Newsom…fuel reduction output dropped by half in 2020, to levels below Gov. Jerry Brown’s final year in office. At the same time, Newsom slashed roughly $150 million from Cal Fire’s wildfire prevention budget.
It appears Newsom is well aware he hasn’t prepared the state for fire season, but instead of doing something about it he is (1) deceiving the public and (2) forcing the Recall vote before his deception is tragically exposed.
This campaign has a simple slogan: Recall Newsom. Save California.
