Who You Allow to Define “Sickness” Determines if You Live in Slavery, or Freedom
by Brian Shilhavy
In the mornings I listen to a “Christian Radio” station that plays uplifting and encouraging music to start my day.
I listen for the music, but invariably these “Christian” radio stations feel the need to also feature speakers, usually “pastors,” who share short little stories or messages played between songs that are supposed to represent Biblical teaching and encourage believers.
Yesterday, the following story was shared on this particular station (I could not find this story in written format anywhere, so I am recalling this from memory and it may not be 100% accurate.).
A young mother was recently diagnosed with advanced cancer. Her doctors gave her two choices. One, she could go to a place like Acapulco and live out her remaining few days in comfortable surroundings. Or alternatively, she could undergo chemotherapy which would extend her life by about 5 years, but she would live in constant agony and suffering during those 5 years from the effects of chemotherapy.
The young mother made the tough decision to go through with chemotherapy so she could extend her life by 5 years, because she said that she wanted to spend as much time as possible with her children, so that if they needed her, she would be there for them.
The reason that this story was broadcast on a Christian radio show, is obviously because in Christianity today, choosing to make sacrifices for the sake of your family is considered very noble, and because Christians have a very high regard of the medical system, and doctors, whom Christians are taught are to be obeyed.
Her choice was obviously being broadcast to communicate that she chose the most moral, and noble option available to her, the “Christian” thing to do.
Well I am here today to tell you that she made the wrong choice, and that her choice was neither moral, nor noble.
First of all, given only those two options, the better choice would probably have been to pack up the whole family, put life on hold for a while, and head to a beautiful place like Acapulco in Mexico with warm, sunny days by the ocean. Being in such a relaxing and restful atmosphere with her loved ones might have literally cured her cancer without pharmaceutical products.
But most of all, her choice was the wrong one because she chose to obey her doctors, and accept their diagnosis of her alleged “sickness” and their prescribed treatments, which only provided two options, as if there were no others available.
Who is missing in this story?
God.
Did God diagnose this young mother as “sick” according to how the Bible defines “sickness”? Were her options really only the two options her doctors gave to her?
How you view the definition of “sickness” and who you view as the authority in diagnosing someone as “sick,” determines if you are living a life of slavery to medical “authorities,” or you are living a life of freedom, where “sickness” has no power over you, because you do not fear it.
How Did Ancient Cultures Define “Sick”?
To answer this question, once again I am turning to that famous collection of ancient writings called “The Bible,” specifically the section of the Bible called the “New Testament” which was written in Greek.
By studying the Greek words and passages where the English words “sick, sickness, disease, etc.” are used, what we find is a very different understanding of the concept of “sickness” from the way this term is used today in modern society.
The most common Greek word that is translated by the English word “sick” in the New Testament is astheneō and its cognates.
In Classical Greek, the word’s primary meaning is more closely related to the English word “weak.” It is the opposite of the word “strength,” which is sthenos in the Greek, with the prefix “Alpha” or the letter “a” before it to signify the opposite.
When it refers to “bodily weakness” the English word “sick” is often used, but it also used for other types of “weaknesses,” such as economic weakness like poverty, or even moral weakness.
Here are a few examples where it is translated “sick” in most English Bible versions:
And wherever he came, in villages, cities, or countryside, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and implored him that they might touch even the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well. (Mark 6:56 – ESV)
In these porticoes lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, limping, or paralyzed. (John 5:3 – NASB)
About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. (Acts 9:37 – NIV)
Here are some verses where the same word is translated “weak,” and where the English word “sick” would not be appropriate:
For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man (Romans 8:3 – NIV)
As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. (Romans 14:1-2 – ESV)
That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:10 – NIV)
since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you. For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God’s power. Likewise, we are weak in him, yet by God’s power we will live with him to serve you. (2 Corinthians 13:3-4)
You husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life; that your prayers may not be hindered. (1 Peter 3:7 – WEB)
I think it is obvious to see here that this word has a much broader meaning than just “sick,” and therefore cannot be “cured” by pharmaceutical drugs as it is used here when it is translated as “weak.”
In the 2 Corinthians chapter 13 verses, we have the word applied to Jesus Christ himself, in one instance as NOT being “weak” but “powerful,” and in the other instance he was “weak” when he was executed on the cross.
In this instance, Christ’s “weakness” when he existed in human form which allowed him to be crucified, and our “weakness” in the physical body as we serve Christ, is not something negative to be cured, but something to embrace to allow God’s power to work in us.
But there is another Greek word group usually translated into English as “sick” that exemplifies the huge differences between how people in ancient times viewed “sickness” with how modern man views “sickness,” and that is echō (to have, to hold) kakōs (bad, evil, cruel).
Its literal meaning is to “have evil,” a moral distinction. Here are a few examples in the New Testament English Bible:
So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them. (Matthew 4:24 – ESV)
That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. (Matthew 8:16 – ESV)
And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. (Mark 1:34 – ESV)
As one can observe in these verses, the “sick” people needing healing from Jesus here are often also being oppressed by “demons,” known as dark angels, or evil angelic beings that followed Satan and were kicked out of heaven.
There is definitely a moral distinction here, and the application of simply “physical remedies” would not make the “sick” person well, as the evil present had to be dealt with.
This is obviously the biggest difference between how ancient cultures viewed “sickness” with how modern man views sickness. Ancient cultures always saw some kind of evil presence behind sickness, and “healing” always involved much more than just physical remedies, as the evil had to also be dealt with.
This moral distinction in the concept of “sickness,” and the use of echō kakōs to describe it, may be best illustrated by the recorded words of Jesus where echō kakōs (have evil) is used in the story of Jesus calling Levi, a tax collector, to become one of his followers and apostles.
After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth.
“Follow me,” Jesus said to him, and Levi got up, left everything and followed him.
Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them.
But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and “sinners’?”
Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” (Luke 5:27-32)
The moral implications of “sickness” are clearly seen in this passage, as Jesus’s recorded words here use echō kakōs translated into English as “sick.”
Within the Biblical literature, and even outside of the Biblical literature in ancient cultures, one cannot discuss “sick” or “sickness” apart from the concept of “sin,” or “morally bad.”
So the use of the word “doctor” here clearly deals with someone who can restore someone from “evil” or “morally bad” behavior or circumstances.
Who were the “Doctors” in Ancient Culture?
This concept then leads to another topic that I have written about frequently over the years, and that is how “doctors” functioned in ancient times, compared to how we understand that word today.
“Doctors” or “physicians” in ancient culture, including ancient Greek culture, were very different from how modern Western culture defines these English words today. They did not deal simply with the physical part of man, the lower “bios” part of life which I recently wrote about in this article:
What is Life?
What the ancient Greeks, and the Hebrews, understood about the bios part of man’s life was that it was considered the lower forms of human life, while the higher forms of human life, which include our soul, and spirit, were necessary to deal with as well in order to treat “sickness”.
And this always deals with moral issues, and the concept of “sin.”
In the ancient world, if you went to see a “doctor” you would most likely be going to some temple where sacrifices were made to appease the spirits or gods that were causing the sickness, and trying to get on the good side of the spirits or gods that had the power to heal you.
There were also physical remedies that were used in the physical realm. The Greeks, for example, were strong in empiricism and rationalism and used empirical examinations to find causes and effects to problems.
But they combined this with their belief system in their gods, especially Apollo who for a period of Greek history was considered the mediator of healing between men and Zeus, one of the highest Greek gods.
In the 5th Century B.C., Hippocrates, considered by many to the be the father of modern medicine, formed a kind of “physicians guild” to uphold a higher standard of ethics in the healing arts, and developed the “The Hippocratic Oath,” still widely referred to today thousands of years later.
Most medical schools still have some form of the original oath that they require their students to take, but probably all of them have left out the opening of the original:
“I swear by Apollo the physician, and Asclepius, and Hygieia and Panacea and all the gods and goddesses as my witnesses, that, according to my ability and judgement, I will keep this Oath and this contract…”
The Hebrews, however, were forbidden to participate in the healing arts of magic and witchcraft which called upon the spirit world.
They were to only worship the one true God (Yahweh/Jehovah) and depend solely on him, since he is the Creator of the universe and more powerful than lower, created spirits that the pagan physicians relied upon.
Therefore, depending upon other “gods” for healing was idolatry, and strictly forbidden in the Jewish laws.
So when we read about what the Hebrew King Asa did when he was crippled in his feet and how he went to the “physicians” instead of to the LORD, we may be tempted to think “What was so bad about that?” given our modern day culture’s acceptance and high regard of the current medical-pharmaceutical system.
But what was more than likely happening was that the King of Israel was running away from God and was seeking a pagan priest with his magic, spells, and potions instead of seeking the one true God of Israel through the Levitical priests:
In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was afflicted with a disease in his feet. Though his disease was severe, even in his illness he did not seek help from the LORD, but only from the physicians. (2 Chronicles 16:12)
This was considered idolatry, and something that God hated. Israel’s belief and service to the one true God was what separated them from all the other pagan nations around them.
So when Jesus comes onto the scene in the First Century and states what I quoted above:
“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
this was a very significant statement.
Jesus, by the words he spoke here, and elsewhere, as well as the miracles of healing he performed, declared himself above the pagan doctors, and also above the Levitical Priesthood, who by Jewish law were the only ones legally authorized to declare someone “healed.”
It is probably best demonstrated in this story recorded in the gospels:
When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? Which is easier: to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins…”
He said to the paralytic, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.”
He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!” (Mark 2:5-12)
What Jesus did here in this story was clearly demonstrate his authority to heal, which dealt with the moral issue that had to be solved: the forgiveness of sins.
In so doing, he proved that his authority to heal exceeded the pagan “doctors” as well as the Levitical Priests, neither of whom could forgive sins and bring about true healing by dealing with the moral issue that causes “sickness.”

There is Only One True Doctor
Modern Culture’s View of “Sickness” and the Elimination of Sin and Morality
Today, modern Western culture has completely changed the concept of “sickness” to deal only with the physical nature of man, with the absence of any concept of “sin” or morality.
As I wrote in my recent article, What is Life?, this can be traced historically to the period in Europe during the late 1700s and early 1800s known as “the Great Awakening” or the period of “Enlightenment,” where academic thought was being influenced by men such as Karl Marx (communism), Karl Ritter (Aryan race), and Charles Darwin (evolution), where the higher forms of human life, ζωή (zóé) which includes “eternal life (spiritual)”, and ψυχή (psuché) which can be translated as “soul,” where excluded in favor of the lower, only physical part of human life, βίος (bios), which gave us Darwinian biology, and the theory of “evolution” of the human race apart from God.
This period of history is what produced our current definition of “science” and “modern medicine,” which was then organized into an association by the “American Medical Association” in the mid-1800s, which then began to monopolize “healing” by making all other competing forms of healing outside of the pharmaceutical industry illegal.
“Life” now can be defined strictly by their version of “biology” which eliminates any reference to the spiritual world, God, or moral values.
“Sickness” today is not considered a moral issue anymore, and the concept of “sin” is completely gone from the practice of “medicine,” as doctors deal primarily only with the physical part of humanity, where the only “cures” that are allowed are patented pharmaceutical products, which depend on a growing market of “sick” people to allow their industry to grow.
Actual cures that really heal people are a threat to their business model.
By the mid-1800s, even the concept of “soul” which in the Bible is translated from the word psuché, was replaced with the new “science” of “psychoanalysis,” made popular by Sigmund Freud, which today is known as “psychology and psychiatry.”
This branch of modern medicine has developed their own manual of “sicknesses” which are not based on anything at all that resembles “science,” but are symptoms that are voted on by psychiatrists to include in their “Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.”
They use “scientific” sounding terms such as “chemical imbalance, bipolar, etc.” but there is not a single independent diagnostic test that can be laboratory-tested to diagnose any of these “diseases.”
The main purpose of this “manual” is to identify these “sicknesses” of human behavior so that pysche drugs can be prescribed to “correct” them.
It is a huge market, and they are among some of the most dangerous drugs prescribed today, and very difficult to wean off of once you become addicted to them.
I would not be surprised at all if the next revision of their “manual” will include something like “COVID denialism” as a mental disorder that needs to be “cured” by one of their drugs, or maybe a new vaccine developed just for “COVID deniers.”
This is the field of “medicine” that has brought us lobotomies and psycho-shock “therapy,” therapies that if agencies like the CIA would be found using on their enemies would probably be labeled “torture” by human rights groups, but are perfectly legal and acceptable if they fall under the field of “medicine.”
The whole field of psychiatry and their pysche drugs is a fraud, and back when the corporate news media still did some real investigative reporting, the news show 60 Minutes actually proved that this field was a total fraud featuring the work of Dr. Irving Kirsch who proved that pysche drugs did not cure anything, and that it was only the belief in the drugs, the placebo effect, that made people feel better.
This is on our Bitchute channel.
Modern medicine has become a cult, replacing God and morality with their own definitions of life, sickness, and health.
And one of the most barbaric forms of this cult is the Vaccine Cult.
Vaccines are the only products produced by the pharmaceutical cartel that are administered to people who are not even considered “sick.” They are administered to those who do not even have the “sickness” which the vaccines are allegedly developed to prevent, but are administered as an “insurance” against possible future “sicknesses.”
The initiation to this Cult begins at birth, as a baby just delivered from their mother’s womb is injected immediately to prevent future illnesses, which today is Hepatitis B, an illness only found in sexually active people.
These injections have tremendous side effects which, if they don’t kill the patient, will help them develop life-long allergies and illnesses that need constant prescriptions for more drugs.
It is truly a brilliant business model by a Godless, Satanic system that most Christians just blindly follow and obey today.
Conclusion: True Sickness is a Moral Issue, Which Leads to Either Healing by Jesus Christ, or Slavery to the Pharmaceutical Cult
Sin is the cause of all sickness, according the ancient historical view of “sickness.”
This does not mean that the person diagnosed as “sick” is always sick due to some personal sin in their own life. That may be the case, but it can also be the case that the person suffering from a sickness is a victim of sin.
The best illustration of this principle of being sick as a victim of sin, is the story of Job in the Old Testament. Job was declared a righteous man, but God allowed Satan to afflict him with disease and other calamities of life, and it was not due to his own sins, but a result of living in a world where Satan also exists, and has the ability to inflict sickness and death.
That’s why so much of Jesus’s ministry of healing included confronting Satan’s demons and commanding them to leave, something that no modern doctor would ever dare try to do.
Jesus illustrated this same principle in John chapter 9, where he healed a man born blind, through no fault of his or his parents:
As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” (John 9:1-5)
So ultimately, sickness cannot be defined apart from sin and morality, and if sickness is not properly identified, how then can any effective cure be offered for the alleged sickness?
Modern medicine defines sickness apart from God, sin, or any moral value. They start with a Darwinian evolutionary biological view of “life” and view sickness as a random set of circumstances, or “bad luck,” absent from any moral values.
Sickness is viewed by the pharmaceutical cult as unavoidable for the most part, and the entire field of “genetics,” which originally was called “eugenics,” was developed as a false science to try and blame diseases on “genes” which we allegedly have no control over.
Since the pharmaceutical cult gets to define “sickness” by their own terms, they also define the “cures,” and use their perceived authority to ban all other cures, so that “patients” are left with only the choices they offer.
So the believers of this cult, like the young woman mentioned in the story I heard on the radio yesterday, is deceived into believing that the choices her “doctors” present to her are the only choices she has.
How sad!
This is why we have “medical tyranny” today, and why so many people willingly subject themselves to slavery in a system that is designed to make them sick and even end their life, if their life is deemed “worthless” by modern society, which is part of the Satanic world system.
Jesus Christ, the Jewish Messiah who fulfilled prophecy and with his blood sacrifice and resurrection from the dead defeated the power of sin and death, is the only one who can truly cure anyone, because he is the only one who can forgive sins and declare you morally “clean” or “healthy.”
When you receive the forgiveness that Jesus offers through faith in him, your soul is saved and totally cured, and your spirit is renewed by the spiritual rebirth process, as God’s power then comes to inhabit your life.
Your physical body may still be weak, and eventually it will wear out and you will go through physical death, but your soul is secure in Christ, as you know that you have a place in God’s Kingdom that extends far beyond your physical life, which takes away all fear of physical sickness and physical death.
Medical doctors cannot provide this to you, and their profession has long since abandoned any kind of moral values or ethical cures.
So why do you keep listening to them and accepting their choices as the only choices available to you?
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. (1 Peter 2:24-25)
“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” (Mark 11:22-25)
A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.”
“O unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”
So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.
Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?”
“From childhood,” he answered. “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”
“‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for him who believes.”
Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:17-24)
