Texas Poised To Ban All Red Light Cameras
These cameras are often tools of crony capitalism. Invariably there is a contractor who runs the things and gets a cut of ticket revenue. Their introduction also led to yellow lights only lasting seconds which made things more dangerous.

…The reality is that cities use red light cameras as a source of revenue, not for public safety.
